Evolution and the Tragedy of Missing God

Science is involved in the search for truth. It investigates, gathers, and tests; then forms theories, opinions, and hypotheses from that information. Science has made great discoveries and given us much for which to be thankful.

However, in its quest for knowledge, it has ignored the greatest discovery possible.

By excluding the possibility of there being a God, prior to setting out to investigate life as we know it, science blinds itself to the evidence God has provided in nature that should convince us of His existence.

This practice of omission means that it is decided beforehand that any evidence that appears to point to God MUST be interpreted in some other way. Any unexplained phenomenon must be attributed to something other than God.

From a theist’s point of view, this amounts to shooting oneself in the foot or burying one’s head in the sand, as far as honest research goes. According to the Bible, the evidence of God’s existence and power is apparent in everything around us, but the discipline dedicated to observation (science), for the most part, has chosen to willfully ignore it.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made...(Romans 1:20 NASB)

There are those who claim that they have never seen any evidence of the existence of God. Of course this makes perfect sense in light of the fact that, previous to any investigation, they have already decided that nothing they encounter can be attributed to God.

Rather than say, "Here are the facts we have uncovered, we don’t know what caused them" they, in effect, say "Here are the facts we have uncovered, we don’t know what caused them, but it wasn’t God, He doesn’t exist." For them, it has already been established that there is no God.

However, this has not always been the case. As J.M. Njoroge writes:
[Early scientists] believed the universe was crafted by a purposeful God who created humanity in his image, creatures who could (to borrow Johannes Kepler’s famous phrase) "think God’s thoughts after Him." To Kepler, "The chief aim of all investigations of the external world should be to discover the rational order which has been imposed on it by God, and which he revealed to us in the language of mathematics." (see note)

It is indeed tragic that many ignore God in their search for truth.

Good article. It is indeed a shame that modern scientists forget God. A true science of the natural world depends on the findings of philosophy and theology for its starting points.
