Psalm 119.85

He tasted it first

"The arrogant have dug pits for me, men who are not in accord with Your law" [Psalm 119.85 NASB]

Sometimes we can get depressed when we continually work and witness to the best of our abilities and it seems as though all our arduous labours produce nothing but failure, frustration, weariness and complete exhaustion.

Rest assured. Something good and positive is happening in the Spirit realm. In this context, Paul said, "Now wherever we go… our lives are a fragrance presented by Christ to God… To those who are perishing we are a fearful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved we are a life-giving perfume." [2 Corinthians 2.14-16 NLT]

David knew, especially when Saul and his hordes were harassing him that his enemies were also setting traps just like the hunter did in his search for wild animals - and their aim was not to kill creatures but to capture, torture and slaughter God's anointed man. Have you ever experienced anything like this?

These men openly defied God's teaching before they turned against His messenger. We may need to remember, especially at this time, that we only receive what has first been directed with brazen hostility at Him.

This is why with all the mischievous machinations of our enemy none of them will ultimately succeed against God's elect. Their victorious testimony can also be ours as we continue to walk with the all-conquering Lord. [David McArdle]
