There is a very interesting Social phenomenon occurring across all cultures this Century. The fact that moral concepts of Canaan and Egypt play pivotal roles in people lives. So it is with New Social Media. Let me explain. As Moses, lead God’s people out of Egypt, to the promise land, called Canaan. They moved their feet toward the promise land while their hearts remained in Egypt. They craved direction they longed for leadership they cried out for freedom, hapless children of Israel dreaming of the Promised Land, a Canaan. The land called Canaan, always God’s symbol for promises to fulfilled lives. The promise to maximize people’s potential, individually and collectively; seeking correction of their spirits, emotions, marriages, children, and professions.
Canaan is a land of promise where God wants you to live by faith today. Shangri-la is fantasy, Nirvana is fleeting, and Bliss is a state of mind; Canaan land is real. Just as Shangri-la, Nirvana and Bliss fail to satisfy do you think Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs, watching 24-hour news all day long, and horoscopes can maximize your potential. The use of New Social Media, as informational updates can maximize your potential but if used as an avenue to achieve Canaan is consider Iniquity.
Iniquity: gross injustice, wickedness, a violation of right or duty; wicked act; sin. This act by man and woman first came about during the fall of humanity, followed the Israelites through the wilderness into Canaan and is prominent in our daily life today. In today’s culture, we fail for five basic reasons: Lust, Idolatry, Fornication, Tempting Christ, and Murmuring.
Facebook and twitter sometimes used to satisfy self at the expense of God and others. There uses are a platform to complain, criticize or to hurl faultfinding rumors. However, Social Media sometimes-useful to spread the word of Freedom, as in the case of conjuring up hope, faith and voicing righteousness leading to the ouster of Governments oppressing people. Sometimes Blogs and watching 24-hour news can cause Idolatry behavior. When peoples esteem to a value system is attractive to something more than devotion to God. They seek power and prestige worshiping at a shine than bowing down to God Almighty. The case of pornography is idolatrous. Do you fantasize an image to satisfy yourself? Have you tempted Christ? Using your tongue to what is contrary to His will. Lying and cheating in business and demanding God’s Blessings to prosper is iniquity.
I look to God when iniquity of sex, lust, temping Christ and murmuring are part of my life. He wants us to enter into Canaan for rest, and blessing. It is obvious that we still wander in the wilderness dying because of sin. I pray that Jesus provides us strength in wisdom during this session of affliction.
