Every February 14 loved ones display their affections with chocolate, roses, candlelight dinners and many age-old sentiments. Though Valentine’s day is mostly about romantic love, all of us are looking for a kind of love that makes life worth living.
We want someone to make us feel glad that we’re alive. We all need someone to love us—not for how we look or what we can do—but for just being you. We want a love we can depend on when everyone else has failed. We search for such love in books, songs and movies. Unfortunately that kind of love is hard to find. When we turn on the TV or radio we usually find someone singing about the lover who let him down. We tune in to a reality show and see a son or daughter reveals the painful memory of a father or mother who never loved her. The problem is universal. In some way we’ve all been wounded in our search for love.
The good news is that there is a love that can heal any broken heart. A love that one doesn’t have to earn. An unconditional love that is stronger than any human love. God is the source of that love. Only God’s love can give you the security you’re really looking for. His unchanging love can free you to be all you’re meant to be. When you open your life to Him, God’s love can flow to you to transform you.
The Bible describes what an ideal love should be like. The world needs that kind of love. During the time Jesus Christ lived on earth, he showed a demonstration of that love. A love that is so great that it can go to the extent of laying down life for the benefit of others.
You could learn about this true love when you read the Bible and you can experience it for yourself when you give your heart to Jesus Christ. If you do, it could be the best valentine that you ever had.
