Among the forest of the green
I wandered aimlessly
My mind messed up with earthly things
I think that I need a rest it seems
I sat me down beside a tree
Where all of nature I could see
The waters edge lay just below
Among the flowers of summers glow
Slumber found me with sweet peace
For me it was such a treat
Until the moon arose above the river
I still slept beneath that tree
Suddenly awakened by a slip of the moon
The beams bounced around me none too soon
The greenery lit up like the noon-day sun
My ears were opened with the latch of the light
Suddenly there was no more night
A harp sound filtered through the trees
The leaves bounced to the fiddlers three
Little green men in little green shoes
Were holding hands and circling me
Their song was like a chanting dance:
“Where did you go my little one?
Where did you go my lady fair?
Where did you go my little one?
Don’t you ever take such a chance?”
My eyes did open widely thus
I rubbed my face and felt a touch
A hand as green as the grass in spring
Hooked my hand on his zodiac ring
Along the trail of the summer breeze
He spread his wings and flew with ease
His touch made me fly along
though he was only as tall as my knees
The wind whistled through my hair
I spread my arms and let out a cheer
“Hey look at me, I’m flying”
Will someone please look at me I’m flying”?
Then I realized no one there really cared
The only ones there to see
Was the little green men
And the birds and the bees
The creatures of the forest did not thrill
For everyone there could fly for real
All of a sudden the wood-lands parted
Oh what a sight my eyes recorded
On the road straight ahead
A luminous castle there was spread
I was delivered through a great long mote
Finally my pea-brain realized, this was not a joke!
The Judge of the forest sit on a stool
In this land, warts did rule
He had a dish of fried spiders for his snack
His webbed feet looked like a dish pan rack
This Judge frog began to croak,
“Mr. Leprechaun, what are the charges on this lady fair”
Then Mr. Leprechaun spoke,
“Well sir, she has been accused of too much time on her hands.
Took the day off from work and napped in magic forest land
The croaky king spoke with ease as he said, “First of all, lady fair, I would like to hear your full name”! The lady spoke up and said, “Why, my name is Mary Alice Bowles”
The Judge then said,
“Now Mary, tell me your story, how does it go”?
Mary then replied, “I don’t know how to tell my story”
The judge said, “Maybe you need a defense attorney”.
Mary said, “why Sir, a defense attorney, I’ve never met”.
“Let me think, do you have any suggestions, who could I get”?
That croaking frog spoke as his tongue did elope
Catching a green fly off his judges robe
“Why Miss Mary, I guess I will have to appoint you a lawyer, won’t I?
Then from his mouth he spit that fly, just as the poor thing was ready to die.
He fluffed that green fly’s wings, and combed his hair, and said,
“Miss Mary, meet your defense attorney, Jordan Green Fly”!
Jordan Green fly licked his wings, fluffed his tail, and straightened his eyes
And to that crowds great surprise.
He spoke up before his turn,
I’ve been listening while flying around in this room.
“Hey Judge, don’t you know that humans can sometimes get lazy like us flies”?
You know how we are, just fly around and spit on food
And we are forever up to no good.
Mr. Green-fly continued speaking,
“Now I would like to ask you Judge,
“Is it against the law to take a nap in magic forest land”?
If I told the world all the funny places you take naps in,
It would be so sad!
Mr. Green Toad, King of the forest road said:
“Well, Mr. Jordan Green Fly, I am getting kind of bored with this legal stuff
I think it’s time I called for lunch
Case dismissed, Mary you can go free,
But you, Mister Green fly come here and see me.
Please approach the bench”!
Mary grabbed that fly as quick as she could
Out the back door she did run
Over the mote into the light
That magic trip had took all night
Now if you visit Mary to this very day
She loves green flies, and let’s them stay
Fly swatters are against the rule
She let’s them eat and she let's them snooze
She has a green fly for a best friend
And now this story has to end!
