In today's Christian society our measuring weight of standards has been slipping into a coma like state of denial. Just the other day I was speaking with a woman who professed to be a believer. Further inspection revealed that many things she deems acceptable in her own life, are not traits a follower of Jesus would embrace.
Before pointing my finger at her though, I had to look within my own life. I had to see for myself if I am who I say I am. As this world grows more corrupt and the fleeting time of Christ appearance is at hand, I have come to this one resolve; the church is becoming lazy.
If someone tells us what we call a little white lie, we are quick to pardon and even admit to them, that a little white lie is not all that bad. What is a white lie?
Webster says: A white lie is an unimportant lie (especially one told to be tactful or polite)
The ninth commandment in Deut. 5:20 says, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." In other words, don't lie. I find nothing tactful or polite about that, do you?
Prov. 6:16-19 - These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
Lying is mentioned twice. It gets top billing here in these things that God really hates.
Lying starts innocently in children and is mostly taught by the parents. Before you get upset, did you raise your children to believe in Santa Clause- Easter Bunny or the tooth fairy? I remember at the age of six discovering that there was no Santa Clause. As soon as my mother admitted that I had discovered the truth, I immediately responded with, So, I guess there is no Easter bunny or tooth fairy either!? I was very upset because I felt that I had been lied to knowing that lying was a reason for punishment in our home.
As I raised my own children, we would tease about Santa Clause etc..but they always knew the truth from day one. I know that I live in a black and white world most of the time. Because of my convictions others may perceive me as a holier than thou, or a little goody two shoes (whatever that means). We all have sin in our lives.
If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His truth is not
in us. (1John 1:10) KJV
In a second look at the Ten Commandments, I find if we can only live by the first one, all others would easily be obtainable in our lives.
Deuteronomy 5:7 You shall have no other gods before Me.
Correct me if I am wrong, but is it not a fact that if we live by the first commandment, we will not fall in love with ourselves and begin lying, committing adultery, worshipping idols, forsaking the Sabbath, taking the Lord's name in vain etc..
There is a great false teaching that has permeated the church in these last days. It is one that teaches us that we must love ourselves before we can love others. That is a lie. We have no problem loving ourselves. We get up everyday, we brush our teeth and if we are hungry we eat and we dress ourselves and care for ourselves as best we can. We look in the mirror longingly hoping to regain some of our youthfulness that has slipped away. Oh we love ourselves; no doubt about that. That is why Jesus commanded,
Matthew 22:39 The second is like it, Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Whitney Houston has sung the song The Greatest Love of All declaring: Learning to love yourself.. is the greatest love of all.
Wake up people, we do not have to learn it. We were born in love with ourselves! Ever watch a baby scream over having a toy taken away? We are born watching out for ole number one me! Yes indeed we love ourselves. Psychologists will differ with me, but I will not waiver from what God already says. The problem here is we love ourselves so much, we are willing to forget our neighbor in need. We love ourselves so much that telling a lie to protect our true motives seems to be the noble thing to do. We are so in love with ourselves we forsake the Sabbath to do what we enjoy doing. We love ourselves so much that if we find the spark of love dwindling in the marriage relationship, we look for it elsewhere.
Come on saints - We got to stop loving ourselves so much!
Our whole life has been a lie if we say that we love others over ourselves.
I heard an old saying that at one time I thought was true Question..Where do liars go?- Answer... Some go to heaven Well, that in itself is a lie.
Rev. 21:7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. There's our promise of eternal life, once again, that God gave us.
Verse 8 - But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
So my beloved friends today may be a day of reckoning in all of our hearts. We need a further inspection to find out who we really are. We need to stop lying to ourselves and face the honest truth. In it we will find freedom.
John 8:31-32 - Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
There is no one to hold you accountable for telling a lie, accept God. This has to start in your own heart as it has mine. Cease the day, for today is your day of liberation!
