To build your dream team you need to empower the members of your team. That is what delegation enables you to achieve. After equipping your followers with the information they need to be leaders, you should give them opportunities to work with the principles they have learnt. If you desire to raise leaders you can trust when you’re not there, you have to give them the opportunity to take the lead. You need to empower them with a measure of authority to do what you can do. When you delegate responsibilities to your team members, you are creating room for the emergence of more leaders in your organization.
Delegation also enables you to know the varying capacities of the members of your organization to lead effectively. There are people who will zealously and diligently deliver on the responsibilities they are entrusted with. On the other hand, there are those who will half-heartedly execute a task that is dear to your heart. You have to take the risk of delegation unless you want to maintain the status quo. There are certain levels of success that will remain a mirage until you build leaders through the power of delegation.
To reap the benefits of delegation, we have to learn how to delegate properly. Be explicit with what you expect your team members to achieve when assigning tasks. Give each member assignment(s) related to their area of strength and expertise. Train your members in the task you intend delegating to them.
As you delegate effectively, your dreams will last from generation to generation.
