A story is told of a young African man who went into the forest with an axe to get firewood for his mother. After searching in the forest for almost three hours, he found a big and dry tree that was however at the bank of a big and crocodile-infested river. As he usually did before beginning his work, he said a short prayer asking God for protection and guidance. He had hardly worked for three hours when he suddenly heard a roaring lion coming towards him. He dropped the axe and in fear climbed the same tree that he was trying to cut down. He was almost reaching the top of the tree when he saw a big cobra waiting for him. He quivered in fear. He thought that the best idea was for him to jump into the river and save himself from the hungry lion and the poisonous snake. Unfortunately, he noticed a big crocodile in the water waiting for a prey to devour. He did not know what to do but still in fear, he said another prayer asking God to “do Your will.” Then “the worst” happened. Due to strong wind, the tree started falling towards the river. He tightly clung to the stem knowing that his day to die had come. What happened to him after that still amazes him and he has never gotten words to describe the happenings of the day. The tree fell right on the crocodile which swam away in fear. As for the snake, it dropped into the water and perhaps drowned or also swam away. He young man was too near the other bank and so he left the lion on the other side. He ran out of that place as fast as his legs could carry him.
Once or severally in our lives, we have gotten in such a situation. We do not have the slightest idea of what we to do next in order to get out of the predicament. We have decided to surrender to God and He has saved us. The Israelites were in the same dilemma. Pharaoh’s chariots were after them and the Red sea was in front of them. They just could not contemplate on where their salvation would come from. But God had a way out for them! He decided to dry the sea for them to cross. David in Psalm 121:2 knows that his help is from the Lord who created the heavens and the earth. We can also choose to trust God in our problem and for sure, He will help us. God wants us to depend on Him alone even when we feel that we have reached the dead end! He is more than able to do everything.
