What is a Protestant?

So just what in the world does it mean to be a Protestant? Several definitions could be applied here but the nuts and bolts definition would be anyone who “protested against the teachings, dogma, doctrine and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church and either called for reform or left the Church, as led by God under his direction of the truth as found in the preserved Scriptures.”
There is no citation there because that is pretty much my definition of a Protestant, and even though it is “my” definition, it does accurately describe the meaning of the word. With that in mind though, it would be important to note here that while it is one thing to protest against the teachings of a religious system from outside it, it is another to do so WITHIN IT. So when exactly did this period of “reform” start? Many people (sadly) think it started with Martin Luther, but nothing could be further from the truth! It really began HUNDREDS of years earlier with Peter of Lyons in the 1100’s. Now, I am not going to give you a complete history of the “reformation” but just enough to see how its history unfolded. And a side note here: I do not call the “reformation” by that word or by the title Great Reformation. I call this period the Great Separation because God revealed his pure, preserved Words to men and women trapped in the Catholic Church, who then left the Catholic Church and spread the news abroad.
My belief is that it was better that these people CAME OUT of the RCC when they did RATHER than calling for reform from within as Luther did, that would NEVER happen in the Catholic Church. Every Catholic Church council that has been held has affirmed the dogmas and teachings from the previous council, so the RCC has NEVER changed or has even thought of changing. If the RCC changes its mind on teachings and traditions, then it loses hold of its people and would destroy their recent introduction of infallibility (which means to be “exempt from liability to error.” They have however recently done away with the teaching on Limbo and “altered” their rulings on birth control usage. Limbo I think was a joke from the get go and is kind of a no-brainer that babies who die as babies get a straight shot to heaven. So much for infallibility!
The Word of God tells us clearly to be SEPARATE from the world, from traditions, from idolatry, from pseudo-Christian systems, etc. In fact we are told in both the Old and New Testaments to be a separated people. Check out this passage from 2 Corinthians 6:14-17:
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Beli-al? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and I will walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM, AND BE YE SEPARATE, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”
I believe God made this very clear to men and women in the Catholic Church from 1100 AD through the 1700’s, where millions of people fled from that vile system. But the Church did not just let these freed people go. Through a series of Inquisitions, the RCC hunted these poor people down wherever they were and murdered them, but not before torturing them in the most disgusting, inhumane and wretched ways the minds of devils could conceive. Think of it like this: an army of Paul’s (Saul before he got saved on the road to Damascus) being launched throughout Europe and laying waste to millions of Protestants, only making them martyrs!
Has ANYONE of you ever read Foxe’s Book of Martyrs? You NEED to if you have not! If you have an iPod or iPhone or iPad and an iTunes account, they have an audiobook version that is amazing to listen to.
You know I thought Jesus told us to love our enemies, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44 KJV)
Gee I guess he did, look at that, wow, hmph!
Moving on now, ANYONE who broke from the Church, from lay Catholics to priests or nuns, lost more than their status in the RCC. When a person left the RCC during the Great Separation period lost everything! There are many accounts in the Book of Martyrs where people who had given house and home to the RCC were shunned by their families and in some cases turned over to the Inquisitors and tried as heretics. Though the word protestant did not originate until the 1500’s, the act of protesting was already in full swing back in the 400’s AD, after Jerome’s corrupt Latin Vulgate Bible came out and the newly risen Ecclesial Roman Empire (the period after the Roman Empire fell and the popes and Church claimed the pieces) attempted to force born again believers in Europe to accept it over their preserved Old Latin Bibles.
For 700 years or so the RCC battled to destroy the preserved Bibles in good circulation through Europe. Unable to locate all copies and those who owned them, the Church 100 years or so later placed Protestant Bibles on their Index of Forbidden Books in 1229, where the Council of Valencia declared, “it is forbidden for laymen (common man) to read the Old and New Testaments. We forbid them most severely to have the above books in the popular vernacular.”
(Pope Gregory IX, Anno. Chr. 1229)
As I have already documented in my 2-part article “Bible Corruption Throughout History” the Great Separation progresses where in the 1500’s John Foxe writes one of the greatest works in history, The Book of Martyrs!
Again, the sad belief is that the “Reformation” began with Martin Luther (who never left the Catholic Church and his 95 Theses or dissertations, proves it along with his continued views of Mary and Baptismal Regeneration teachings). At the end of this article I will provide you with a number of sites to look at to examine Luther more closely, especially his 95 complaints.
To be frank, we do NOT need Confessions or Councils or this or that and the other to guide us as Biblical Christians. I am an independent born again Christian…meaning I am NOT a Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, Calvinist, Puritan, Quaker or any other group out there!!! So while I am not a Protestant, because I was NEVER a Catholic, I do protest (strongly) the Roman Catholic machine that holds the souls of a billion people in bondage…and I will do it until my last breath!!!! I don’t knock or attack “lay” Catholics because they are brainwashed and don’t know any better. It is however the hierarchy, the governmental structure of the RCC, from the priest all the way up to the Pope himself that I go after. Look at Titus 1:13:
“This witness is true. Wherefore REBUKE THEM SHARPLY, that they may be SOUND in the faith.”
Notice there that God is not saying to rebuke them mildly or slightly or some or sort of or in any other wimpy language. He says to “REBUKE THEM SHARPLY!!!!” I know some times my language may be sharp…oops, there is that word again…but it is how I feel! I am NOT a friend of religions. In fact I am intolerant to religion and exclusive in my belief that salvation is by ONE way only…by faith in Jesus Christ ALONE. The Bible is very intolerant and very exclusive too, thank God! The message of salvation is inclusive, in that it is open to all people, notice, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should NOT perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 KJV), but the way to get saved is exclusive! Thank God!
“Oh Chris you are not being inclusive and tolerant,” you say. DUUUHH!!!
While I do love Catholics (the people in that religion) I hate the Catholic system, same for Muslims, who belong to the vile evil religion of Islam who convert people by force and deny Jesus is God incarnate; Mormons, who teach that God was a man before he became a God and that Jesus is the spirit brother of Satan; Jehovah’s Witnesses, who deny the Godhead and deny that Jesus is God in the flesh and teach that the Holy Ghost is an impersonal force; Christian Science, which denies the deity of Jesus and teaches that Christ was a spirit being separate from the man Jesus and denies the redeeming power of Jesus’ sacrifice. The list could go on and on!
The one common denominator among the above is that they were all founded by people, men and women (Christian Science was founded by Mary Baker Eddy). Biblical Christianity on the other hand was founded, if you will, by Jesus, God in the flesh! Amen! I never gave religion a single thought while I was growing up and I knew it was bad. I was an Atheist most of my life and followed Evolution and science. I tell my folks that I did not find religion or become religious or “find God” as it is said. I am grateful that Jesus sent other believers to witness to me and that I believed in and received Jesus as my personal Saviour by faith alone and repented of my sins toward God.
“Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God.” (Revelation 19:1 KJV Bible)
**When you read these dissertations, please pay close attention to the following numbered listings, and by them alone you will see that he was NOT a true born again Christian, for he never refutes or teaches AGAINST things like Purgatory and Indulgences, etc.:
Number 7, number 9, 29, 30, 38, 40, 41, 53, 61, 71, 78
My hope is that this piece will clear up any confusion you have on the “Reformation” and anything else associated with it.
