I believe this point of view is not popular in today's Christian church because many believe we are meant, even deserve to a life of leisure, ease and comfort. Many say that if we are not enjoying these things then we are not getting the blessing of God.
Just as God and Christ have not changed, neither has the Truth of Christianity. However most Christians of today are opposed to that Truth. I would suspect that is not pleasing to the Lord. If the Church's love grows cold it will be because of the things that oppose the ancient Biblical Truth that I believe this poem emulates.
Even I have to admit that the thoughts expressed above make me very uncomfortable, but I cannot deny the truth of this and must submit to the unchanging Truth that is as immutable as the God who taught it. As I wrote this I believe to agree with this point of view will only lead to my success as a Christian, because it is a view that is realistically in line with the kind of life that exists today as the result of the Fall of Man and sin and because of the things forewarned in scripture. While sin abounds, Grace indeed abounds so much more. All I need do is live according to that Grace.
I believe that the perspective the Gospel teaches becomes the Armor against the things we will face in this good, yet imperfect, life.
