A CONFLICT BETWEEN TWO KINGDOMS

Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his officials, to bring in some of the sons of Israel, including some of the royal family and of the nobles, youths in whom was no defect, who were good-looking, showing intelligence in every branch of wisdom, endowed with understanding, and discerning knowledge and who had ability for serving in the kings court, and he ordered him to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeanís

(Daniel1:3,4)

There is no doubt that Nebuchadnezzar had high standards for those who would serve in his court. Daniel and his friends were part of that select group but they were not there to serve Nebuchadnezzar. They were representatives of another kingdom, and were there by Godís appointment and He had a different purpose for them. The purpose of the king for them was to make him look good. The call of the world is conformity. God calls his servants to be different. His standards are different and so are his purposes.

Unknown to Nebuchadnezzar, he selected those who represent a kingdom in conflict with his. To followers of Christ we have this message from Daniel. The world cannot tolerate those who are different. There is always the pressure to be pulled into its mold. Be confident that our faithfulness to Christ will make a difference in others. We are part of a kingdom that doesnít conform but brings change in the lives of people.

Dare to be a Daniel,
Dare to stand alone;
Dare to have a purpose firm
and Dare to make it known
