One day I had a visitor, who knocked upon my door,
he tried so hard to sell me some cleaner for my floor.
No thanks, I said and closed the door, retreated back inside,
there's something about salesmen that I just can't abide.
Another day outside my house, a woman smiled at me,
I glared at her suspiciously and fumbled for my key.
The next thing was a neighbour, asked to borrow tea,
he couldn't manage to the shop as he had hurt his knee.
A likely story was my thought, when handing over tea,
that I had worked to pay for, what's wrong with his knee???
Day in day out I saw the worst in every living soul,
with emptiness inside my own suspicion filled the hole.
One day I had a visitor, this time rang the bell,
tried so hard to sell me the antidote to hell.
No thanks, I said and closed the door, retreated back inside,
there's something about salesmen that I just can't abide.
I jumped in shock when cheekily he shouted it was free,
suspicion taking over, well... there had to be a fee.
I told a friend who laughed and said surely you can see?
you've turned away an angel, there really was no fee!
Don't be daft I told her, it just couln't be,
it wasn't any angel, or was it? ...could it be?
