One day, I made a vow to you
to stay right by your side,
but like so many others
I soon began to slide.
I never stopped believing
but seldom called your name,
and many times felt so alone
and wondered who to blame.
But looking back I still see you
you'd never gone from me,
still had your hand upon my life
and waited patiently.
You never closed the door to me
you kept it open wide,
you asked me many different times
to come and step inside.
and now I have returned to you
you've made me clean once more,
and now I want to stay with you
on this side of that door.
You've given more than I deserve
and I thank you for it all,
I'm sorry that I left you
and refused to hear your call.
You've given me a second chance
and I thank you one more time,
for returning once again to me
my favourite gift of rhyme.
