In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I Thessalonians. 5:8
But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you brothers, beloved of the Lord. II Thessalonians 2:13a
We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers. I Thessalonians 1:2
A few years ago, a friend of mine told me that each year; she wrote a special Thanksgiving letter to someone who had a special place in her heart.
I was suddenly ashamed that I had never thought of doing this before, as a list of names of people began to roll in my mind. Some of these people had already gone to be with Jesus, and I had never specifically expressed to them, just how much they had meant to me, and all of the things that I had learned from them.
The Apostle Paul had surely set the example, centuries ago, as in each letter; he never neglected to tell the people how thankful he was to God for them. I had never truly received the message. He thanked God and the people often.
Yes, I am so thankful for all of the wonderful people that God placed in my life at a strategically perfect time. There were many who so lovingly set an example, or showed me something new from Godís Word. These were people who lived what they spoke, and yet said very little; but they were there for me, prayed for me, and prayed with me.
Yes, I have often thanked God for them, but I had never expressed my full heart of gratefulness for the blessing they were in my life. Well, this has changed. Each year, I have begun to choose someone from my life contacts to express my heartfelt thanks directly to them by a thanksgiving letter.
This has been such a blessing to me personally, just to sit down and write to someone who has been so very special to me. I believe that through this act, I have become a more thankful person.
Wonít you join me, and express your true feelings to a wonderful person in your life this year?
This is thought provoking and a wonderful reminder that no one is an island unto him/herself. A word of thanks and appreciation goes a long way in the world. It goes a long way at home, also. God bless.
I know you weren't expecting this but a highlight of the summer was when I got to meet you and Paul and have lunch with you. Being in contact is great and learning more about the Lady who writes (rhyming poems to boot) has been a really super blessing.
