A LITTLE ROOM
(A Christmas Devotion)
By Jackie Wilson
“6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2:6-7 (KJV)
There’s no reason to think that the innkeeper was being cruel or thoughtless when he turned the young couple away. Most likely, the inn was full of travelers, going about their business, people who had come to Bethlehem to be counted in the census. Those travelers didn’t know that by occupying those rooms in the inn they were forcing Mary and Joseph to deal with delivering a baby in the meager shelter provided by the stable. The guests at the inn simply did not realize that they were missing an opportunity that night to “make room” for the Messiah himself.
Our lives are full, just as the inn was full, and especially so during the Christmas season. We load up our hours with activities – baking, cooking, shopping, wrapping, decorating, singing, spending time with family and friends – all good and wonderful things to do. But as we hurry to fulfill all our obligations this Christmas, let us not forget…
To take a little time in our overscheduled days,
To seek a little quiet in our overtaxed brains,
To make a little room in our overstuffed hearts
… for Jesus, the Messiah, Emmanuel.
If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
