EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP
Although we have leaders in the underdeveloped world, we lack effective leaders. Little wonder the economies of such countries are in a deplorable state. The good news is that even bad leaders can become productive leaders when they are willing to learn the principles of effective leadership. Effective leaders:-
• Love people unconditionally.
According to John C. Maxwell, one of the laws of true leadership is “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Love is the foundation for leadership. The Bible records in Matthew 9:36 that when Jesus saw a group of people, He had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a Shepherd. His heart wept for them because no leader could be found to make a difference in their lives. Love was the driving force for every action Jesus took while on earth. Because He loved people, He was able to solve their problems.
• Solve peoples’ problems. The fact that we see people as problems underlies why we are reluctant to solve their problems. When we see people through the eyes of love we gain the capacity to meet their needs. Love induces us to be a blessing to people. Anybody can identify and analyse a problem. However, leaders go a step further. They proffer a solution to the problem. They exercise the initiative of making life better for others. When people are complaining about a problem, leaders are solving the problem.
Effective leaders are willing to go to any length to solve peoples’ problems because they love them unconditionally. Have a prosperous Christmas and New Year.
