Oh God, I seek your awesome face,
Which shines with mercy, beaming grace
Through rays of powerful revelation.
Total meltdown, sweet sensation.
But you have turned your back on me
When it's your eyes I long to see!
Why do you hide the truth from me
That I seek so relentlessly?
The answer comes immediately.
"To seek my face you must be free.
Heart purity provides the key.
Prepare yourself for what you'll see."
I almost can't believe my ears!
My reddened eyes erupt in tears.
Thank God! At last a revelation!
Total meltdown, sweet sensation!
Bring it on, Lord! I can take it!
Rock my world. Let's feel you shake it!
"You asked for it," He says to me.
"Don't be afraid of what you see."
He turns His back, rips off the cloak.
In horror I behold each stroke.
Not sure I want this revelation.
Total meltdown. Some sensation!
Cords of anguish caused by sin
Laid on Him my worst chagrin,
Strapped to Him my deepest pain
From tablets I broke 'gainst the grain.
How can I look into the eyes
Of the one I did despise,
The Holy One I called unjust,
Whose Son has paid for my distrust?
What crushing millstone ton of guilt
Fell on His back! What blood was spilt!
His flesh was crushed. His work atones
For all my bitter moans and groans.
Each bloody scar a severed veil
Reveals the truth in stark detail.
His glory shines from every stripe,
Assures my peace, dissolves each gripe.
What healing does this light impart!
It penetrates my restless heart.
And now at last I understand
The reason this delay was planned.
For I can't bear to see His face
Until I'm covered by His grace.
Unless by His stripes I am healed,
I cannot see His will revealed.
But as I see Him on that pole,
I feel His love. My heart's made whole.
As on His back I turn my gaze,
He brings me to another phase
Of joy and freedom, hope and love,
As deep to deep calls from above.
What a powerful revelation!
Total meltdown. Sweet sensation!

This is a sweet revelation! When people think that God has turned His back on them, He is really taking the punishment for their sins and doubt upon Himself.
This, in my opinion, holds all the power and inspiration of the famous "Footprints in the Sand" poem. Absolutely beautiful.
