Sunday 11/14/10 Pastor Alex’s sermon: God’s Presence Exodus 33:14, Isaiah 11:2, Acts 2:2, James 4:-10 I Samuel 5
God’s presence will go with us and He will give us Rest. We need to go into God’s presence before there can be any change in our lives. When God does something it is Unique and Original. It cannot be copied.
God’s presence does the REAL change in our lives. This is the change and the transformation that only God can do. We need to say thank you for God’s presence in our lives.
1) God’s Presence---Settles Us:
God will give us Rest in the midst of the storm Isaiah 11:2. The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon us. It will settle us down, soothe us and quiet us down. God’s spirit brings us peace, comfort and rest . It relieves us of worry and anxiety.
2) God’s Presence---Brings Us Joy:
If we find that we need more Joy then we need more Jesus. If we are a stick in the mud, we need more Jesus. Acts 2:28 God makes us full of joy.
3)God’s Presence---Brings Kingdom Rule:
God’s presence rules and brings miracles into our situation. In Samuel, God’s presence took over and saved the Israelites. God’s presence has a history of bringing prosperity to his people. God said He would pour out his blessings on all people.
James 4:8-10 We must humble ourselves, draw near to God and He will draw near to us. Don’t be double-minded and worry or be depressed. This is being a double-minded Christian. God’s presence brings victory to every area of our lives. Every dark area! When we humble ourselves, God will lift us up! God will draw near to us AFTER we draw near to Him. Jesus never meets us where we are at. Jesus loves us where we are at but Jesus meets us at the Cross of Calvary. He died for us on the cross so he can live with us to change our lives for the better.
Soooo…….why do we resist? We think its weird to follow an invisible God that can do big things. When Moses was on the mountain, God used lighting, smoke and earthquakes. God may do this with us and this makes us uncomfortable and scared. When we are uncomfortable, scared, we don’t go to God but instead stand in defeat. We resist God because we are afraid of what will happen. So then we are getting comfortable with our dysfunction.
**We need to taste and see that the Lord is God!
**Jesus said once we drink of the water He will give us, we will never thirst again.!
**God’s presence brings peace, joy and prosperity!
