“When Christ, our life, is revealed, then you will also be revealed with Him in glory,” (Colossians 3:4).
On that day, Jesus went out of the house where He stayed to walk down by the sea to sit. Soon after a large crowd gathered around Him to hear Him speak, but because their numbers were so many Jesus had to get in a boat to step back from the crowd a little. There He sat that afternoon telling the people the fable about the seeds that were sown by the sower (Mathew 13:1-9). It is not often that we stop to think of Christ as a lone seed of goodness and holiness that was planted by God into our souls when He first created us. Like all other seeds, this one too has the potential to grow and produce fruit nourishing our body, mind and soul. However, this Seed like no other is capable of things far greater than just nourishment. Indeed it is also our life shield, our life protector keeping us far from harm sheltering us from all evil. With such a force dwelling in us, what else would we need? What other worthwhile benefits eludes us?
So many names have been used in reference of Jesus, and surely the Almighty Shield of Goodness would not be incorrect either. Christ placed Himself at the center of our being, His home on earth, wholly filling our heart’s chambers. From there He is able to shield us on every side protecting us from every angle. If any arrow of darkness is shot our way their tips will never pierce our bodies for from within He is able to thrust and expel all wicked forces which comes our way. As long as Christ is our cloak, the dark arrow’s tips would never even touch us.
When we receive Christ the Lord into our souls, whether by the Word or by the Eucharist, we are partaking not something that is of His, but rather it is Himself which we are welcoming. To describe such a power as a mere ray of light would be a huge understatement, for it is the very orb of the sun which shines in us and through us. Thus, Christ dwells in us and we in Him body and spirit melting into one another. Our bodies and all their faculties at this moment are no longer something solid and physical with form, but rather all have crossed over into the spiritual realm. Our bodies, our souls, our blood are all mingled and mixed into the Lord’s and thus the two become as one. We, our Lord and you, our Lord and I, are made into one spirit that is wholly good, purely truthful and swelling with love.
What does this mean? What’s now united? There can be nothing grander. The more excellent things overcome the inferior, that of the divine takes over the flawed human, and that takes place as St. Paul describes concerning the resurrection: “For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life,” (2Corinthian 5:4). Furthermore, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me,” (Galatians 2:20).
Have you ever stopped to ponder this fantastic phenomenon? It is nothing short of fantastic, it sails way beyond our limited human comprehension. The Good Seed once sewn by the True Sewer inside our hearts has grown into a life source, a security force flowing through our bodies. What a thing it is to think of Christ’s mind, our Lord’s and Creator’s mind, to be blended with ours, our will to be mingled with His will, our body and His Holy Body, our blood and His Divine blood all melted into one! Does that not blow your mind away? What god would will or do such a thing with his servants? None but our God, for He doesn’t see us as servant or slave, He regards us as His own children, belonging to the Holy Family. What is our vulnerable and limited mind when the Divine mind takes the driver’s seat? What is our wants when the heavenly will has overcome it? What are our ashes when it has been warmed by His mighty fire? It is over whelming; my mind is blown in deed. If you know now that such a sublime phenomenon can happen how could you ever refuse?
