I recently found myself walking along a gorgeous, little stream that curled around the golf course by my house. As I attempted to cross the slow moving currents by way of a small log, I noticed a flat, palm sized rock at my feet.
I was instantly mesmerized by its beauty. As the clear, cold water poured over the rock --smoothing its edges over time, and with the light catching its colors for dramatic effect -- I realized this just might be the prettiest rock I'd ever seen.
I leaned over to pick it up and place it in my pocket, intending to show the radiance to others. It quickly dawned on me that once outside of the water -- outside the perfect light and flow of the clear waters engulfing it -- was that it was just another rock. It was actually quite ordinary; nothing special at all, maybe even less than ordinary, in fact.
We're like that, too. When we're living in the Holy Spirit, in the flow of the cool, clear stream and in the perfect light of Christ, we change into a new or different "rock". Jesus Christ, who is truth, love, and righteousness, transforms each of us into new creatures -- beautiful, lovely -- magnificent even!
Where we place ourselves in the streams of our life -- the situations we find ourselves in, and the people with whom we associate -- AND whether or not we allow the Holy Spirit to flow through us -- is significant. It's the difference between beautiful, fascinating and even magnificent ... vs. being ordinary, nothing special, or even ugly at times.
I Cor 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
