Joy and Happiness at Thanksgiving
My wife, Mary, wrote this for a website I used to have back in 2004. It is relevant today.
What makes joy and happiness?
Different things make different people happy. Some people find joy in simple things.
The joy of finding a wildflower blooming in abandonment in a field or a carpet of red clover in the meadow gives great pleasure to "wildflower nuts" such as I.
The joy of turning the earth for a garden plot, or the joy of taking a barren plot of ground and making a "beauty spot" out of it, this makes for joy and happiness for some people.
To face the odds and be able to master them and to rise in the face of defeat, this gives great joy to many people.
But to know perfect joy is to leave your bit of soil richer than you found it when you began to toil.
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
Serve the Lord with gladness: come before His presence with singing.
Know ye that the Lord he is God: It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the Lord is good, his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. KJV
As we enter the Thanksgiving season, may each of us pause and consider the things we have to be thankful for and the things from which we draw joy.
May we be careful to count all our blessings, and may we be a more grateful people.
I am onbe of those who enjoy the simple things in life. A pleasant smile...a gentle hug...words that uplift...a baby's smile...watching my son draw smilie faces for me and telling me how much he loves me...you posting an encouraging piece that brings a smile to my face. This reminds me of an article i was meant to post a long time ago which developed from your article or it could have been a poem called, 'Wildflower'. I will look for it and share it with you. Love you both and God bless!
Thomas, I still am not receiving notice of new posts from Author Tracker.I deleted and did it all over again but to no avail.Anyway, this is a nice post and please tell Mary that I love it.I am Thankful for you and Mary.
I may not have happiness all the time, but I am so blessed by the joy that never leaves my soul - and that only because my God and Savior is the source and that is His dwelling place. I don't know how anyone makes it through a day without His embrace to carry him through - I know I couldn't! Thanks to Mary and blessings to you both :) Jody
