If I lived in a little shanty by the road
And my clothes were all tattered and torn
I still would have reason to rejoice
For into the Father’s family I’ve been born
If my pockets were empty, and I was broke
If no money, job, nor home I possessed
I still would have reason to rejoice
For with salvation through Jesus I am blessed
If my health was gone and my body broken
And no one would love and care for me
I still would have reason to rejoice
For I know one day my Father I will see
If everyone cursed the day I was born
And always spoke of me with spite
I still would have reason to rejoice
I know I am precious in God’s sight
If the person in this poem is you
And your soul is right with God
You have plenty of reason to rejoice
For one day streets of gold you’ll trod

oh Thomas, this is so true, however it is also a sad thing when we don't see a reason to feel this way.I have been in these places and if I had not had Jesus, I would not be here to testify.People, houses, money, food, drink, nor anything else died for me...only Jesus did and only He can satisfy any and all of my longings.I am among those who are poor little rich girls.Poor in wealth..rich in Jesus.AMEN!!!
Thanks for this poem Thomas. It is a reminder to praise God through all our situations. Rejoicing...[though heart is heavy] for 'this too [my current situation] shall pass'. So I'll continue to rejoice. For I do know that God is in control even though see the way clear or understand why [I let go the need to know why for He knows better than I].
Thank you, Thomas, for speaking that wonderful message of hope and truth. I remember after enduring 1994 with all of its serious trials - where each day I wondered, "so what will it be today??" - I concluded that if there was ever a day that found me naked and alone with nothing or no one to call my own, I would still have everything I would ever need for Christ would be with me as He promised. There is no greater love to bring to the empty, hurting soul than that of our Savior and Friend! Blessings always, Jody

Thanks for this, Thomas. Many of us have been in somewhat of a situation you have described, maybe not hungry, or maybe not homeless, but in a state of LOWness of spirit.I've been there. I remember once when I was there, I recalled the object lesson of the little worm in the middle of a ring of fire. There was no place to look for help, but UP. Then a finger was there to rescue him. God is always there with His FINGER out, waiting for us to look up...Keep looking UP...Helen
