BACK TO THE BASICS

Today’s news headlines blare out stories about suicide bombers, twin towers, drug warfare, school shootings, abductions and all forms of moral degradation and we find ourselves asking the question "what in the world is happening and when will it all end ?" With enormous scientific advancements and technology wonders in our enlightened age why do we still experience so much stress, depression and fear ? What ever happened to peace and contentment? Can you recall a time when life was so much calmer and simple and wish it could be that way again? If your answer is yes, lets sort through the confusion and chaos of today’s world and go back to a time.................

When : grass was something you played football on and coke was a favorite drink…
Before : it became an addiction you smoked or sniffed for a drug high

When : truth and justice prevailed…
Before : an abundance of high powered, money hungry lawyers set the killers and rapists free

When : honor and integrity were character traits to strive for…
Before : shrewdness, dishonesty and greed beat them down

When : you could boldly speak out on moral issues…
Before : it became political incorrect to do so

When : absolutes clearly defined a moral code…
Before : relativism and political correctness became the norm

When : it was easy to do what was right and follow the golden rule…
Before : that line became hazy and a new ideology allowed you to set your own rules

When : a handshake was enough to close a business deal…
Before : you hired a lawyer to handle your legal affairs

When : you knew the first and last name of your date before you would even consider having a more intimate relationship…
Before : good times and instant gratification replaced respect and commitment

When : a gentleman opened the door for a lady…
Before : the term male chauvinist and control freak became common speech among feminists

When : virginity was a gift that was given to your spouse as a wedding present
Before : it became rare and a source of ridicule

When : gay really meant a happy state of mind
Before : it became an acceptable life style

When : your personal sex life was considered private and sacred, kept behind closed doors
Before : it became acceptable to let the world know what your sexual preference was and promote it through public display

When : aids was unheard of
Before : sexual perversions, drugs and bad blood infected all ages, color and gender

When : faithfulness in marriage was highly revered
Before : affairs were considered healthy and productive by Hollywood producers, sex experts and free spirited intellectuals

When : homemaker for mom was still an honorable career choice
Before : feminists propaganda altered it to the lowest level of importance

When : dad felt good about his job
Before : a good portion of his wage was taken out to pay someone who didn't want to work

When : parents made their children’s Christmas presents
Before : the credit card opened up a world of instant gratification

When : hard work and savings bought the luxuries
Before : both husband and wife were forced to work because of overspending and credit card debt

When : keeping the family together was a priority
Before : jobs and careers took precedence over family time and relationships

When : you had time to visit with friends and family
Before : cable TV , tech games and sports moved into that space

When : a baby was considered a baby when you wanted one
Before : it became a fetal tissue that was aborted when you didn't want one

When : children were wanted and loved
Before : they became an annoyance to be ignored or put in someone else's care

When : a trip to the woodshed put a strong willed child back on track
Before : corporal punishment was banished as abuse and parents became paranoid about discipline

When : a couple of tin cans and a cardboard box was all a child needed for entertainment
Before : they complained about their $100 birthday present you bought with the credit card

When : parents normal physical expression of love for their children was a part of life
Before : child analysts convinced them through regressed memories that all their problems derived from their parents

When : all the family sat around the supper table
Before : everyone was too busy doing their own thing and very seldom touched base

When : "Leave it to Beaver" was the entertainment of the day
Before : cable TV, video games, MTV and movies spewed out a high dose of perversion, violence and sex 24 -7

When : a child could play safely in their own back yard
Before : some maniac kidnapped them to satisfy their perversions

When : a personal relationship with God through Christ and a daily walk in the faith was a way of life
Before : the social fuzzy warm gospel became trendy and church attendance was reduced to a once a week duty

Living in the "When" is life in its simplest form. Many of these things listed can still be applied to our lives today--but not without sacrifice:

l. No more cheating or lying--it's called HONESTY
2. Develope a deeper relationship with your spouse-learn to listen --it's called SENSATIVITY
3. Keep your marriage sacred--it's called FAITHFULLNESS
4. Restore order in your family by new house rules and discipline--it's called PARENTING
5. Scale down to one credit card--it's called ACCOUNTABILITY
6. Allow only one gift per child under $25--it's called MODESTY
7. Eliminate curriculums that take you away from family time--it's called PRIORITIES
8. No TV one day a week--it's called FAMILY TIME
9. No TV or computer in your child’s room--it's called MONITORING
10. Making more time to visit family and friends--its called SOCIALIZING
11. Renewing your faith in God through JESUS CHRIST and attending a good bible teaching church-it’s called COMMITMENT

" SEIZE THE MOMENT “ Treasure each day and live it as if it were your last
As you make an attempt to go "Back to the Basic's" you will discover a renewed satisfaction and contentment in knowing that life and your priorities are in order. If the world outside goes into a meltdown, your personal world will be stable and at peace under the approval and blessing of our Sovereign God, the highest authority, judge and ruler.
