Devotionals
Each night, after the little girls are tucked into bed, I read a book to them.
Right now we are enjoying Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott. In it is a character named Beth.
She is a gentle soul that thinks more of others and rarely asks anything for her self.
Night after night as I have read this story, I have thought how much my little girl is like the Beth in the book, and today I saw it so clearly.
My little girl has never had a sleepover party, and she wanted one for this birthday.
So we sat down together and made the plans, mothers were called, invitations given out and groceries bought.
And today, on the big day, she hopped out of bed, straightened her room and anxiously waited for the girls to arrive.
After a long morning of waiting for the the hour to arrive, and the party to begin, the first and only vehicle pulled up.
A few hours later, my little girl anxiously asked where were the rest of her friends.
I sadly told her, I don't know, I don't think they are coming honey.
A few tears rolled down her face, a small sniffle escaped, and then she put a sad little smile on and went on to play with her sisters and guest.
Although I know she is sad about the ones that did not come, she is putting on her best face and enjoying the one that did come.
What a precious lesson to be played out before my own eyes.
A lesson of thankfulness for the blessing she had been given and not pouting about what she didn't receive.
My sweet little Beth who is like the character in the book, inspires those around her to live a life that is Christ like.
This quiet little girl who at the sound of a need, immediately prays with earnestness and faith, fully believing that her Jesus has it all in control.
Little her body may be, but she is a huge example to all of us around her.
1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. [King James version]
