God’s Presence
When God decides my time on earth is up, my conscience will be free of guilt knowing that I did the best with what I had. More importantly I will know that I did my best to always be a genuine person led by integrity.
Like many people who have suffered or are suffering I could tell you that life is unfair and question the existence of God, but I am more convinced than ever of his existence. God does never give us challenges we cannot handle and all of us will have to prove we are capable of overcoming the different ones we face. What I have achieved surviving a brain tumor already shows his power and blessings but my recovery and subsequent life removes any doubts for me. I have very little motor skills left from my surgery in 1988, I have poor balance, double vision, a nystagmus (eyes and focus moving with body movement),very little coordination etc…. and have managed with hard work and his guidance to surpass many medical expectations and resume my life! My condition although not very visible from the outside rapidly deteriorates when I am tired and the daily tasks of walking in a straight line and seeing become a nightmare, nevertheless I persevered, got a Masters and published a book. But God blessed me even more by opening the path to meet a girl I met on the internet. She also had God in her life as she escaped utter poverty in a small village in the Dominican Republic. Without her faith in God she would have given up or gone the easy way out but she refused and worked even harder inspired by her mom. Well, she was first in her town school, received a scholarship to study computer engineering in Santo Domingo where she was first in her class again and received a full scholarship by the president of the DR to go and study for her Masters in Madrid. This girl is my soul mate and I would trust her with my eyes closed…it’s like we knew each other before! If it were not for God guiding us what would have been the chances I met her as there were so many barriers including language and distance (I was in New York City)!
Today I am fiancée, I plan to marry and look forward to having a family. I will keep on fighting to achieve this goal although it is tough for me to make a good living with my physical handicaps but I do not doubt for a second of God’s presence and his importance in my life. I know that I am rich in my heart and that is what counts at the end.
