"And when it was evening his disciples came to Him, saying, this is a desert place and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. But Jesus said unto them, they need not depart; give ye them to eat. And they say unto Him, we have here but five loaves, and two fishes. And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up unto heaven, He blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to His disciples, and His disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve basket full. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children" Mathew 14: 15-21
Did you read that? Just think about it, you could be in the middle of a miracle even right now. The disciples were in a dilemma, other scripture accounts of this event indicated that the people had been with them through out the day and they too had run out of supplies. One of them had to tell Jesus that their was a young lad around with only five loaves and two fishes( Jhn.6:9). Now why he could even point such a thing out in a situation that had the population of men about pegged at five thousands beats me hollow. But
Jesus had asked them to feed the people, implying that it was something they had probably done before or were not averse to doing since there was now a well oiled ministry machine in place that saw to every aspect of organizing for the large crowds that came around. But that very day, they had possibly ran out of stock.
The question is where did the miracle take place or is it when? He took the bread, blessed, broke and then handed it to the disciples who passed it unto the crowd. Five things were done and six if you include when Andrew took the bread from the young lad.
Now one of the most plausible point of occurrence as far as the actual miracle was concerned could be when Christ blessed the bread because we can say that was the point of contact between a need on earth and The Provider in heaven. This could be the point of actual occurrence but we can't be categorical here. This is because the miracle could have happened the night before when Jesus went to pray as He normally did.
But we could also say that the miracle had already occurred "from the foundations of the earth" i.e from the beginning of ages because spiritually speaking, that was actually when the Lamb of God was slain. So if His death was from the foundations of the of the earth, then everything else that happened prior to that death i.e his birth, His walk, His Word, His miracles had already being sealed i.e had already happened as well. So everything that occurred both prior to and after His death had already happened hence we can't be categorical or legalistic about the actual time the miracle of multiplication took place.
But the issue goes beyond the actual time of the miracle. The issue is actually the seemingly lack of consciousness on the part of the disciples that the miracle was actually taking place.
The issue is that they having a teething problem at hand and were totally unaware that the miracle was not only taking place but they were part and parcel of it happening.
They got the bread.
They handed it over to Christ.
They received it from Him.
They shared the bread.
They kept on sharing the bread...
Now is it not very possible that you are in the middle of a miracle; a miracle that is solving a particularly teething problem?
Let's do that again:
They got the bread. The problem was still there. How were they going to feed possible multiples of five thousand people(since it is a given that there would be more women there than men). What did Jesus say we should do again? Yeah Andrew saw this lad with five loaves and two fishes( maybe He wants to have some for Himself, I don't think he has even taken anything today).
They handed it over to Christ. It could have been you doing the the handing over. You still have a problem and there is no way you can connect what you are handing over with the challenges you are facing. Let's face it, when we talk or think of 'seed faith' i.e sowing something to key in or unlock by faith the answer to a need, we don't think of 5 loaves and 2 fishes. We don't think of sowing something that doesn't seem to have much value to us. This is where we remember a king who once said that he would never give to God anything that did not cost him something. And we definitely don't think of sowing something that doesn't really belong to us( the food items were not even theirs). Their minds were preoccupied with 'real' issues. They needed to feed men, women, and children.
They received it from Him. What does he want us to do with it? Share it? And they started sharing.
They shared the bread. I don't know what to say here so we' ll just move on.
They kept on sharing the bread...
I give up. This is where we'll stop because I simply do not have anything to put down.
But do you know that they later collected the fragments and that it filled twelve baskets? Who says you can't be in the middle of a miracle right now?
You may be in the position of trying to get five loaves and two fishes from a 'young lad'. And you may not find this a comfortable experience. The bread basket has emptied out and there is no ability to fill it up. Now you find yourself going to ask things from others that will help you along the way and you are not even asking for much. What you are asking for will not 'solve' the problem but you still have to bear with the discomfort of asking. You are in the middle of a miracle.
You could be in the situation of the handover and you may be saying in your heart that I have given Him everything; does He still want this? You are the instrument of that miracle.
You may be at the stage of receiving what you gave back to Him and you are saying now that when you were given it to Him it was at least whole. But as small as it was then He is returning them back to you in even smaller fragments and you are just not seeing the miracle. It is there.
The scripture says that the consciousness of the multiplication was hidden from them ie it was an act of The Godhead. And there is nothing that comes from God that does not have a valid reason. We may hazard guesses but in the end they will just be guesses and Christ did tell them later or open their consciousness to the miracle( in fact two), but this is the point we just have to talk about trusting Him. And because there eyes were closed to it when it was happening and even after it happened does not mean that the same will apply to you. But these scriptures are meant to give us and emphasize that assurance that God is for us. I believe that you are in the throes of a miracle. I believe that you are inside it be it in the beginning, middle or end. That no matter how tough or desperate it seems now, like the disciples every thing that is happening about you is bringing you to the conclusion of multiplication. Walk with Him by walking in the light of His
Word and instructions. They may sound confusing and even stupid to our human understanding but we don't have to understand His light to feel or experience His power. Walk in the Light and may His mercy keep you till the miracle materializes before your face to the glory of His Name. Amen.
