I woke up this morning to find myself
In the middle of a miracle
The morning chased off the darkness
With single-minded intent
The birds sang with a determined melody
Even the flowers opened with exceptional beauty
As they reached in love for a welcoming Sun
For lying next to me was pure unmerited favor
Her loveliness growing with the morning light
As it stole through the window
And danced about her features like a playful kitten
Lying there was grace beyond imagination
Beauty beyond description
And a love of immeasurable depth
Thirty years of love and loss had come and gone
A baby girl born of that love had become a woman
There had been tears shed and laughter shared
And many dreams had made way for harsher realities
Yet still the miracle remained
Time had stood a silent but faithful vigil
As thirty years marched surely by
Their footsteps quickening with each passing year
Thirty years with the same wonderful woman
Thirty years of hope and joy as well as pain and struggle
Of wishes come true as well as dying dreams
And through it all the love remained
The headlines cried: "Calamity and woe!"
The TV blared, "Death and destruction!"
Husbands we knew said goodbye to their wives
Wives we knew said goodbye to their marriages
Children cried and homes were broken
And still our Covenant remained
Thirty years…still we are married against all odds
Thirty years…still we are in love beyond all belief
Thirty years and still she is my Beautiful Bride
Thirty years and here I am
“Smack Dab” in the middle of a miracle.
