Since the 1980s and up until now, "Mega Churches" and their sophisticated media networking have overtaken the traditional, fundamentally sound, established bodies of Christ.
There are many disturbing trends being proclaimed forth from today's mega churches. One of which is the "Prosperity Gospel." This practice is so pervasive in the massive onslaught of the satellite broadcasting ministries.
Taking Biblical passages such as the Book of Malachi and manipulating/distorting the true context of those passages whereas, to sustain a profiteering enterprise. The twisting of "seed faith." Through these distorted means- sucking up the parishioners and the viewing audience forking out over extended contributions- mega churches blatantly dictate the terms of God's blessings. That is the message being conveyed forth.
Nothing could be further from the truth than what they promote - in accordance to the life of Jesus. His life was totally non-materialistic and His followers/disciples were to follow Him in truth and spirit. A life of humility, sacrifice and abstinence from desiring world wealth and ways. This message is clear throughout the teachings of Jesus in the entire Book of Matthew. Paul went on to exemplify this life and message in his actions, teachings and letters to the various churches -throughout his travels. In order to gain life, we are to die to our flesh. Thus, the refraining from the desires of the flesh.
Yes, God will bless those who "store up their treasures in Heaven." Jesus will bless those who "give to least of these." This does not equate to the Mega Church teachings of sending the pastor a thousand dollars and expecting a hundred thousand back. Remember how Jesus described the level of difficulty for the rich man to enter the gates of Heaven? More difficult than the "camel to pass through the eye of the needle."
Sadly, these millionaire pastors/establishments have fooled the masses in to somehow thinking that they (the masses) are lacking in their faith and/or blessings if they don't strike it rich too. That they would be rich too, if only they were blessed at such a level by God Almighty. That God shows less favor on them since they don't have all the lavish cars, houses and stuffed bank accounts. When in all actuality, its just a pure and simple con game backed up by psychological manipulations and blaspheming Scripture.
If people/church goers would get back in to the "Word" as opposed to the "bread and circus" culture, these stage shows wouldn't exist - at least, not at their current frenzy. Because, these movements require the support of ignorant backers/sponsors to enable this false "prosperity Gospel trend."
