SHOW ME YOUR GLORY (Exodus 33:18-19)
“Then Moses said, “Now show me Your glory.” And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence.
Here was a man hungry for more of God! He was not satisfied with a few isolated experiences. He would not be content with some goose bumps! Even God’s verbal assurance of His continuous presence was not enough for him. Moses said to God “Show me Your glory”! He longed for the ultimate revelation of who God is. He understood that God Infinite was too awesomely holy and radiant for him to ever see God face to face and live, but he still longed to go beyond where he was. He was drawn to seek more and know more, and experience the essence of all that Yahweh is.
God’s glory is the physical (and often visible) manifestation of His undiluted presence. It is a glimpse of the very atmosphere of Heaven. The glory comes where there is reverence for God and sincere Holy Spirit led worship. It is the essence of God Himself. Anything can happen in the glory, and those who have learnt to draw down glory through worship bring Heaven to earth wherever they go.
We may believe that God’s glory is something mysterious and hidden; something which cannot be found by you and I; but we can see that God desires to reveal Himself, and manifest His glory among His kids. Moses did not have to cry and beg, fasting and praying on his face for days and weeks. As he expressed His desire, God promptly answered him, and told him how he would experience the glory. Many of us may be familiar with Isaiah 42:8, which says “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.” This is not about God not wanting to reveal or give His glory to those who long for it. It speaks, instead, about the fact that God will not allow any of the honor and majesty due to Him to be given to the deities of the world, who could never compare to the holy loveliness of all He is. On the contrary, Jesus prayed (John 17:22) “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one.” God’s heart longs to bring us into that deeper revelation of His heavenly presence, and Jesus made it possible for us to receive this, by bridging a gap that we could have never otherwise have crossed.
Isaiah 60:1-2 says “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you.” Things may seem pretty dark and bleak around you. You may be experiencing a stressful time in your family or your finances. Maybe your situation at work has been getting you down, or your faith has been challenged by pain or recurrent infirmity. God wants you to know that you can experience His glory. As the atmosphere of heaven hits your home, your work life, your body or mind, you will know the breakthrough, deliverance and healing you have been crying out for. Sin abounds around us and it seems like darkness is indeed covering the earth; people may be living in disunity and desperation, blinded to the goodness of a holy God; you may be facing a difficult personal situation and the weight of your problems may make you feel like you cannot go on; but the glory of the Lord is rising upon you! God has prepared the way for us to know the atmosphere of heaven, the essence of who He is, and see the awesome power there is in His glory. He has made it possible for us to see His ‘goodness’ pass in front of us, as signs, wonders and miracles take place and lives are transformed in the glory. The impossible becomes possible and the name of Jesus is exalted.
So, how can we draw down the glory of God?
1) Hunger, desire, and ask, as Moses did.
2) Let no one and nothing else (spiritual or physical) take the place in your life that the Lord deserves. (“I will not give my glory to another” – Isaiah 42:8).
3) Set aside time for sincere worship. Moses worshipped in the tabernacle and the glory filled it (Exodus 40:33-35).
4) Know that God desires to manifest His glory and take you to a deeper place of revelation. Jesus has already made it possible.
5) Live a ‘no compromise’ life like Moses did. Hebrews 12:14 says “Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
Friend, I know that God has such heavenly revelations in store for you. May you experience all the beauty and power of His glory and see breakthrough in every area of your life. You are always in my heart, and I will be praying for you through this week. Seek His glory!
