"Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches! Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord!" Lamentations 2:19
How often does life give us a second chance ? When we think that the time passed will never come back, to our incredulous surprise, life makes a full turn and gives us a second chance.
One of the most poignant hymns which is constantly on my mind these days is ‘”Living waters flow on,sweep away my pain, bring your healing to my heart, let me love once again.”
The word ‘again’ is always very interesting.
I came across this famous quote; “Dear God, if I give all my love away, could I have a refill.”?
I think God gives us all a second chance not just a refill of love but in every other aspect as well, to make up for the past, to repent, to heal, to forgive, to make peace, build bridges , to continue on the path of life in a more beautiful and fulfilling manner.
There have been various instances of a second chance which the Lord himself gave to so many of those who thought themselves lost forever. Peter after having denied Jesus considered himself to be the lowest of all the apostles but the Lord restored him to the dignity of the first Pope in our church.
When Saul was struck down blind on his way to Damascus on his quest to persecute the Christians, the Lord instructed Ananias to restore his sight and faith thus making Paul one of the greatest martyrs along with St. Peter.
When Namaan the Chief Commander of the army of the king of Ar’am and a mighty warrior was struck with leprosy, the Lord inspires the Prophet Elisha to instruct him to dip seven times in the Jordan thus making his flesh whole again, free of the disease and a new lease on life.
Mary Magdalene was given a second chance to renounce her way of life and serve the Lord in total trust and love.
God never gave up on any of them; he gave them all that vital second opportunity to prove themselves and secure their places in the heavenly kingdom. He never gives up on us also. He knows we all have it in us to meet His dreams and plans.
As I prepare myself for a medical ordeal this coming week, which I have promised the Lord, I will bear cheerfully; I give thanks to Him for giving me yet another chance to glorify His name.
The bible verse that comes to my mind in such a situation is; “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
This is the most comforting thought to have the Lord’s own heavenly army on my side; I just have to take refugee under the shelter of His wings.
May we never let go of the second chance given to us; it is now or never. Today is the day to chase the blues away, to restore our memories, to make the best of life because it is here and now. Tomorrow needs to be waited for and yesterday has slipped by. But, Today is afresh, alive and blooming with all its moments of glory, to praise and worship God for yet another day, for a second chance to complete all the pending work, to rise and shine again.
Yes, Peter had another chance. I recently posted a poem about Peter, called "I Weep Bitterly." A word of caution, if we wait for tomorrow for the second chance, it might be too late. God has not promised us tomorrow. I sure hope all who are lost will take advantage of the second chance while there is still time. God bless.
