Every human being has a mission; we are all on one. We may set goals for ourselves which then become the missions that we live and pursue. We are created in the image of God and the fact that we like having a mission clearly shows us that the He too has a mission. But whereas His mission concerns us, our own little missions and goals are usually about our own desires and possible achievements. However, as our Creator, God has the sole rights and say of how we live in this world. We should therefore remember that we are called to live His mission and not our own. This is the call on our lives, that we may live His mission for us.
When we become believers, we should forget our missions and pursue Godís; the Holy Spirit, who has the ear of the Father, helps us with this. We were bought at a price, the death of an innocent lamb of God. We belong to God and as such He should have a say as to how we live in this life. But Alas! We choose to pursue our own goals and agenda, hardening our hearts even further to He who loves us. Yet no agenda, no plans, no thoughts, no decisions should come above those of God and His reason for creating us. God has only one agenda for us and it is for this that He created us. He is not interested in anything else that we may do outside of this.
Most of us Christians double up in doing many more things; one foot remains in church while the other pursues worldly pleasures. This way we feel good about ourselves because we can comfort ourselves into believing that we are really good Christians. But Christ is not looking for lukewarm Christians; he is looking for those who are fully and decidedly for him. Life is not about us, it is about God. It is about living for Him through service to others.
The greatest challenge God has is not the devil, since the enemy was defeated at the cross anyway, it is manís resistance towards Him. For those that are born again, we now belong to Him and such we should choose His way. We may be passionate about what benefits us or that which brings us pleasure. But what about that which brings God pleasure, should this not be paramount in our lives? If we are not passionately pursuing that which pleases God then we are living a worthless life and the emptiness that accompanies our achievements will be a warning to us that we are not pursuing Godís agenda.
From Genesis to the book of Revelation, the Scriptures talk about Godís agenda, and we are part of this. We therefore need to discover what God is pursuing and be a part of it all by doubling up on the pursuits that are pleasing to Him. If we pursue the world, we struggle with life and we complicate the simplicity with which He expects us to operate. His expectation of us is not only that we may come to church and commune with Him, but rather that we may then pursue His agenda through the various ministries that will need our dedication and commitment as we serve Him through humanity. This may call on our talents and sacrifice but this will ultimately honor Him. God does not deserve only the 10% that we give our tithes but everything that we have and everything that we are. He owns all the silver and gold as well as all the wealth that we think we own; as such everything should be directed to Him in one way or the other. Therefore we should become what He wants us to be by living out His mission.
Godís mission is to establish His kingdom in all the hearts of all the people in all the nations. This is His desire and His mission. In the Lordís Prayer, Christ shows us this, ĎÖthy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heavenÖí Christ gives us a pointer to Godís intentions so that we do not begin by asking for our daily bread but rather that His Kingdom may first be established. But at the fall of man, rebellion manifested itself in our hearts and we continue struggling with it to date. We need to put God first; His agenda should define our very existence. Unfortunately, most of us choose to live first for ourselves, then next for God-if at all.
Many of us are either unaware of or disinterested in Godís agenda and especially because the enemy has successfully shifted our attention and focus from our God. There really is nothing wrong with owning or desiring to own a car, a house or anything else for that matter. The question however is, does God come first?
With the in-dwelling presence of the Lord, all people who make us their enemies invariably make God their enemy. But Satan is not Godís enemy, he is our enemy. Godís real enemy is manís strong will of resistance; unfortunately, this too is found among church-goers. Godís enemy is found in our churches. This enemy manifests itself as carnality. A carnal mind pursues its own agenda which is contrary to what God wants of us. Romans 8:7 says Ďthe sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God law, nor can it do soí.
We were purchased at a price Ėthe blood of Jesus Christ. God owns us and He is calling us undividedly to spread the Gospel to all nations. We should therefore de-throne anything else that stands in the way of this mission of God for our lives. By our talents and gifts and in our various market places, we are expected to spread this Gospel.
Psalms 110:1-3 says, 1ĎThe Lord says to my Lord: ďSit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. 2 The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, you will rule in the midst of your enemies. 3Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in the holy majesty, from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth.í These verses show how everything on earth will bow down and be subjugated to God and give the assurance of victory; that God will raise a people through us to influence other nations. People will freely volunteer and give of themselves eagerly. We should therefore not be afraid for God covers us in every way. Greater is He that is on us than he who is the world!
Many people in many countries do not know God, but we do. Let us not wait for a special voice to invite us to do what God has already commissioned us to do at salvation. John 15:16 says, ĎYou did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit Ėfruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my nameĒ. Let us not wait for someone to recruit us into doing some work for God. Missions are not just for missionaries. We are all missionaries for God.
People are perishing daily out there even as we go into our various churches. Some of them have never heard the Gospel of salvation or the restoration of Jesus Christ. Let us not wait for a voice to ask us to talk to the perishing or the lost because that voice will never come; let us just do it! Some people will go to a Christ-less eternity of suffering and gnashing of teeth because we failed to share the Gospel with them. How sad this is!
Let us not be ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power, not a power. Let us be volunteers and have passion for God. Let us offer ourselves to God wholeheartedly and not let our careers, our studies or our families remove our focus from the Almighty God.
Godís real enemy is inside us; it is the hardness of our hearts and thatís the first thing that Christ must rule over. Are we passionate enough for our God? Are we willing to bring nations to Him? It really is time to show our love, dedication and commitment to God by obeying the great commission.

A good test of the value we place on our material possessions is would we be willing to turn loose of them if Christ asked us to?
