One night, my two-year-old daughter was very ill. Her fever rose so high, that I had to take her to the hospital. It was about 9:00 p.m. when I arrived at the hospital and sat in the waiting room. After a short while, I was called into another waiting area. Other patients became very restless and agitated because the doctor had not yet arrived. The complaints grew louder. Some people started to verbally abuse the receptionist and hospital attendants. They claimed to have been waiting since 10:00 a.m. that morning and still had not received any attention.
As I heard their grievances, a special verse of scripture came to mind; I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. – Psalm 121: 1& 2. Then I closed my eyes and prayed.
“O Lord, I know that you are my help, and I know that the doctors don’t seem to care about the sufferings of these poor people. Please Lord; help me now for my daughter’s sake, and to strengthen my faith in you. Please send a doctor.”
To my amazement, as I opened my eyes I saw that a doctor had arrived and passed right in front of me. God had answered even before I had called. He saw my need and he wanted me to see the answer to my prayer the moment I had opened my eyes. Then I heard the doctor tell the receptionist.
“Old people and babies first.”
Since there were no old people, my daughter’s name was the first one called. What a wonderful God we serve! The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. - Nahum 1:7 KJV
