Why is temptation so hard to defeat? Oscar Wilde put it this way, "The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it. Resist it and your soul will grow sick longing for the things it has forbidden to itself, with desire for what its monstrous laws have made monstrous and unlawful." The flesh longs for it the sprit abhors it, and only Jesus Christ and God can rule over temptation.
As we struggle with this delirium, understand we cannot fight flesh with flesh. 2Corinthians 10:3-6 points out temptation lies not in the cranial realms but in spiritual realms where the forces of God can pull down strongholds and arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
Therefore, those stricken by the desires of lust, who repent repeatedly, pray for help during the battle against principalities of the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places must turn away from sinful acts. How do we overcome our plight? It is possible by the power of The Sprit of God, Ezekiel 36:27 "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them."
I can only pray my continued repentance and open sprit shall allow His Sprit to rule my thoughts so I can control my behavior in the name of Jesus Christ.
