Precious was my little lamb.
I watched as Precious was born,
And as he first tried to stand on wobbly legs.
I watched him grow stronger each day.
He was perfect, and without blemish.
Preciousí wool was soft and pure.
His nose pink and it followed me around.
My voice he knew and came to my call.
I cared for him daily finding him the best grass,
And took him to the sweetest coolest water.
I protected Precious from all dangers.
My pet slept happily at the foot of my bed.
The trumpet sounded announcing the Feast
And I knew the day I dreaded had arrived.
You see Precious was my sacrifice.
Her life was payment for my sin.
The walk to the altar was long and painful.
He had been my friend, would he feel betrayed.
Oh, why had I done the things I did.
You see Precious was taking my place, my death.
I lead Precious to the foot of the altar
With tears running down my face
I stood before the high priest
Ready to surrender her blood for my sin.
He smiled at me and pointed to a hill
ďI know a better way that will be enduring,
A blood that will abide forever as the offering
For sinís penalty, and manís redemption.Ē
I watched not believe or even understanding my eyes
As a perfect sinless lamb walked freely up that hill.
His precious blood was shed upon on old rugged tree
And in my heart I knew it should have been me.
For the first time in my life, I understood sin's horrible cost.
My heart was broken, and in great distress.
Bitterly, I wept as I saw the priestís love for me
Knowing it could only come from God above.
Falling at the crossí foot, I begged forgiveness.
His precious blood covered me and washed away my sin.
I arose a new man, changed forever by His love.
My heart now free on sinís chains and full of love.
And as if that was not enough, I saw Godís son rise again.
He smile at me and said, ďI am the way, the truth.
He who would come to me has life eternal and abundantly.Ē
