Lord watch over our soldiers
As they go along their way
Guide their steps as they protect
This Lord is what I pray.
Bring our boys and girls home safe
Let them always rely on you
Let them recall like their brothers in arms
Lord You.have their back too
Give them peace of mind Lord
Their lives may not be like before
Lord, give them the strength and courage
As they return home as veterans of war
Many will come home very different
From places like Afghanistan or Iraq
The sounds and sights from life before
May now trigger memories as a flashback
What was the structured life of a soldier
Gives way to what feels like chaos now
Lord, help them to start a new normal
Give them patience to figure out how
Some are overwhelmed when they return
Others seem to fair somewhat well
Depending on what they’ve experienced
It’s something you just can’t tell
But I ask Lord that you touch their hearts
And the hearts of those that are close
Remember, it’s when we’re least deserving
That we need to be loved the most
Let our soldiers know Lord
And their families that sacrifice too
We thank them for their selflessness
We thank them for all that they do
Lord, please watch over our soldiers
Whether their home or far away
Let them not forget Lord
That we pray for them every day
