We find it difficult to comprehend undying love; in our what’s in it for me generation, a pledge of love is hard to believe. Golden anniversaries become rare, as disillusioned discard hearts with yesterdays newspapers. We must never give up; true love involves commitment in good times and bad.
It may be time to recognize marriages that do work. Scandal sheets report the failures; look for those that succeed. Visit with a couple in their twilight years, or a widow alone after half a century; they have a story to tell. There were squabbles, silent treatments and maybe even nights sleeping on the couch. They stuck it out and romance blossomed into enduring love and devotion.
