Fatigue can be debilitating; sleep deprivation is a contributing cause to illness and is a factor in many vehicle accidents. We are aware of the damage to property, injuries and loss of lives when those under the influence get behind the steering wheel. The lack of sleep also impairs judgment; weary and tired individuals should seriously consider the risk, before operating machinery, or anything used for transportation.
We all have worked overtime, whether on the job or at home. There are times when we just have to stay at the job until it is completed. Determination and necessity keep us focused long past the effects of caffeine.
Nehemiah and his faithful crew were rebuilding the protective wall around Jerusalem. Opposition caused discouragement and delays; Nehemiah like those on Broadway knew the show must go on! (Nehemiah 4:1-23).
“So we continued the work with half the men holding spears, from the first light of dawn till the stars came out. At that time I also said to the people, ‘Have every man and his helper stay inside Jerusalem at night, so they can serve us as guards by night and workmen by day.’ Neither I nor my brothers nor my men nor the guards with me took off our clothes; each had his weapon, even when he went for water (Nehemiah 4: 21-23 NIV).” Though weary, the work continued. They found strength from a Mighty God!
