The years have been wearing me down
Little by little;
Eroding my soul
Like the waves of the sea,
They crash relentlessly against the rocky shore,
Etching their great stone faces
With deep crevices.
Life has taken joy and gladness,
Replacing it with the dull ache of loneliness.
Loss and the dying dreams of my youth
Have withered on the vine,
And now, cause great sadness
Reminding me of the life
That should have been.
How long, O Lord?
How long must I endure
This long, cold night?
I long to enjoy life once more;
Looking forward once again
To the anticipation
Of what the new day will bring,
O soul, be lifted up to new heights!
Be lifted up by the loving-kindness of the Lord,
And be thankful for his good blessings.
Have patience,
For the sun shall rise again
On your horizon.
Be comforted and know
That your God’s ear is open to hear
Your cries for help’
He will surely guide and strengthen you
In your distresses.
Do not doubt the ability of His hand
To deliver you
For He is mighty
And is fully able to do miracles
Beyond your knowing.
Be strong and courageous
For tomorrow will be as light
Before you
