Why do we pray
Prayer-the means of building an effective rapport with our Father, which art in Heaven or in other words drawing near to God 4:8 ESV
During Sunday school Sally asked her teacher, Mrs. O why do we pray? Mrs. O then said “well honey we pray because that’s how we talk to God”. Sally then responded by saying I thought that we prayed to make people feel better when they’re sick or hurt. When my tummy hurts or when I get a boo-boo on my knee my mommy always kisses it and then says a little prayer afterwards.
Although we should pray when sickness is present (whether in our bodies or someone else's) it isn't the only reason that we do pray. Guidance (your ears will hear a word behind you, saying "this is the way, walk in it"-Isaiah 30:21 AB), loneliness (behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go-Genesis 28:15 NASB); praise (I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted-Exodus 15:1 NIV); help in times of distress (so let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God, there we will find grace to help us when we need it the most-Hebrews 4:16 NLT) and making our desires known (if we know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know that we have those request made in Him-1 John 5:15 AB) are only among a few reasons that we do we pray. The most important reason why we pray is to increase our relationship with Christ (My cry brought me right into His presence-2 Samuel 22:7 TM). So what are you waiting for?
"I believe in prayer. Its the best way we have to draw strength from heaven".-Josephine Baker
