Now I sit in a chamber darkly
Where madness so kindly placed me
Lying on my feathers
Where love just once
Embraced me
I looked into the mirror
But couldn’t recall who faced me
Now I see the golden frame
Beginning to encase me.
I’m not winning, I’m not losing
Am I even in the race?
But I can’t bear to face
The populace.
But to lie here – that’s disgrace.
I’m spiraling up the down staircase
Each is a step of youth misplaced.
My tracks if only, I could erase
Each solid memory of mine displaced.
I’ve yet to catch sight of a happy face
With whom I can mingle and interface.
Please Lord, no more, you can see it in my face.
I’m praying to find thy divine grace.
