When Mother Theresa was asked what the solution to world peace was, she replied, “Let everyone go home and love their families”. It is a known fact that when families fail, the society fails. The family makes the man; the man makes the society. So much importance and value should be attached to one’s family for all the success and achievements in a man’s life cannot be compensated for the joy and treasure of a happy and loving family. Children are gifts to be enjoyed from God and not inconveniences to be endured.
Nowadays, many parents have neglected their families in the pursuit of career, fame, wealth and so on leaving their children in the hands of house- helps, peer groups, internet, and the mass media and so on which has become their greatest undoing. This has resulted in the rising number of children who become sources of concern to the society in general which is a result of this lack of parental upbringing. They neglect the reality that a child needs his parents’ presence more than he needs their presents. Also that a parent is the main “star” in a child’s life all others are supporting actors.
The issue of parenting has to be given utmost importance for though it comes with great responsibilities, its rewards are priceless. Training a child is not an option but an obligation; a commandment from God. For a parent to have the key to a child’s heart, he must accept and love that child as he is, appreciate him, lend them a listening ear, a pat on the back saying I love you, I am proud of you, laying good examples, making them feel that they are a vital part of something significant and above all being passionate about parenting.
In conclusion, it is easy to dodge the responsibilities of parenting but one cannot dodge the consequences of one’s irresponsibility. It is up to each and every parent to rise up to the challenge for as a wise man once said “I must do something solves more problems than something must be done.
