Praise is a thing most hath sought.
A snare wherein some hath been caught.
If thou, by chance, hast been praised,
Thy inner secrets hath not been overlaid.
Praise bringeth out that which is within.
Shewing thou art virtuous or soiled by sin.
If thy heart be pure, praise proveth thee humble.
If thou art swollen in pride, sin maketh thee stumble.
When thou art praised, courteously labour,
To praise the Lord who blesseth thee with favor.
Proverbs 27:21 (The Message) The purity of silver and gold is tested by putting them in the fire; The purity of human hearts is tested by giving them a little fame.
Proverbs 27:21 (NIV) The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested by the praise he receives.
