Randy Hartman had been going through a very difficult period and was extremely anxious. Having consulted with his wife and supervisor at his job, Randy and his family went to Padre Island in South Texas to see if relaxing by the seashore by the Gulf of Mexico by the surf and under the sun. He thought this area might help deal with his anxiety.
No matter how hard he tried to relax and enjoy himself, he just could not do so. It seemed his situation became worst. On the third day of his vacation, Randy, while walking along the beach stopped to pick up a starfish. As he did so, a police officer patrolling the beach happened to come upon Randy who knelt motionless over the starfish.
She was a short statured middle aged woman with a warm smile. “Sir, are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m okay,” Randy responded. As he picked up the starfish, the officer notice his hand trembling slightly as well as a troubled look on his face. She sensed that something was not right with this young man.
“Young man,” she said softly. “God is blessing and protecting you right now. Be joyful!” She gave him another small starfish, an angelic smile and quickly walked away.
Randy walked along the beach with the sound of the policewoman’s voice lingering in his mind as he met his family sunning themselves. He felt a tingling sensation in the palm of his hand from the touch of that kindly policewoman.
“Young man, God is blessing and protecting you now. Be joyful!” Randy thought with a sense of surprise. For several days, the policewoman’s words recycled through his mind like a whisper caught up in the winds of the Texas seashore. Yet he could not forget her exact words. Then one day, Randy noticed that his hands no longer shook, the anxiety was gone from his heart and mind, and the peace that he longed for for so long was present in him.
Randy’s wife noticed the peace and his relaxed posture. He told her what happened on the beach days before. Randy believed the middle aged policewoman had been an angel of God through whom His peace, unconditional love and joy could flow and reach countless troubled individuals such as himself. Randy went back along the beach to find the policewoman but never located her again. After several hours of searching and questioning many locals who frequented the beach, reported they had never seen such a person.
Experts in the social sciences say that in our daily comings and goings report that we come in contact with at least two dozen people. What is the likelihood that one of these will deliver that all important message of God’s blessing on you? And if you are open to His blessings, spread it to others thus changing their lives for the good. Try it with your husband, wife, child, parent or friend—even someone you might consider your opponent or enemy. If you are too shy or afraid to give God’s blessings aloud, say them to yourself in the form of a short prayer:
“God is blessing and protecting you now. Be joyful!”
