BIBLE TEXT: Heb 4:15-16: For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16, Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
In Chapter 5 of the bible text, defines what a high priest is, every high priest his chosen from his fellow men and appointed to serve God on their behalf, to offer sacrifices and offerings for sins. Vs 2 since he himself his weak in many ways, he is able to be gentle with those who are ignorant and make mistakes. [GOOD NEWS].Vs 4 No one chooses for himself the honour of being a high priest. It is only by God’s call that a man is made a high priest- just as Aaron was.
A high priest is a person that stands in the gap between God and man to intercede on behalf of men, for their sins and offers sacrifices to God on their behalf. The bible says Christ who sits at the right hand side of God the father pleads on behalf of our sins [believers]. How can God plead on behalf of man? How can JESUS CHRIST showing this deep concern for human beings?
When Jesus was born into the world, Matthew 2, the life of Jesus showed us that he was 100% man and 100% God. At different occasions Jesus Christ showed himself to be both God and man. Thus having the full nature of God, Jesus Christ also had the full nature of man, this means he had emotions, feelings, mind set, ambition, tears, fears, ups and downs He had to learn to pray and to obey.
Sometimes when we read about the great achievements of Jesus we look at him from the GOD part, but we forget that he was also MAN, He grew up like any other human being. So going back to the bible text above God choose him to be our high priest because, God know that he has felt what it feels like to be a human being(For we have not an high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities) This means that, for Christ to be a perfect intercessor for our infirmities, he has to be a person who have gone through a similar or even worse situation has we do, For example in life, a person who has been rich since the day he was born can never really know what it feels like to live in poverty, He that has never been sick cannot understand the pain of a sick person, If you have a complete body cannot know how an handicap feels. This is what answers the question of the deep concern Christ had for us. He knows what it means to be weak, sick, poor, sorrowful, afraid, lack, abused, frustrated, alone, disabled, cry, suffer and be tempted etc… He has experience all this things, when he was on earth, so he can properly explain to God the father about our infirmities (weaknesses). So anytime we go wrong knowingly or unknowingly, and we ask for forgiveness and it seems as though, God is not paying attention, we should how to approach God, we are meant to approach God, even boldly (Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need Heb4:16.) we should Know better, that we have an high priest who understands what we are going through, and is faithful and just to forgive us. GOD BLESS.
