5/16/10 Pastor Alex’s Sunday sermon: Thou Shalt Not Lie Acts 5:1-11
Acts 5:1-11 Ananias and Sapphoria lied to the apostles and God about the money they got for selling their house. Their lie was not necessary because the money was theirs to keep or give away. The problem was they had put on a mask. The mask of trying to be something you are not and trying to look more spiritual than what you are. We can’t fool God! God knows us and what our motives are. We can’t fool God!
1) God Sees Us:
God knows our motives, our thoughts and He can’t be fooled! God created us, understands us and knows how we think and knows our very heart beat. God sees us!! God is everywhere all the time. He is an all knowing God and we can’t keep stuff from him. We need to believe that God is involved in our lives and knows what we been doing. God is active and present in our lives NOW!! He is a positive influence in the life of the believer. Ephesians 4:30 Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit. Sin grieves the Holy Spirit.
2) Sin Causes Us to Hide From God:
When we know we are just not right with God, we isolate ourselves from God. We stop going to church, stop reading the bible, stop praying and stop hanging with Christians. Sin causes us to hide from God! People hide and sometimes are not even aware of what they are doing. God always tries to bring us out of hiding so we can get back to Him. Its when we don’t want people to know that we have lost hope that we put on Masks-”Sunday’s Best”- to go to church. When we are masked, we don’t get changed at church by coming to God. Matt 7:5-8 These are Hypocrites! They play church and play Christian.
God is concerned about our inside not our outside. He wants us to get clean on the inside and it will spread to our outside. Don’t be a hypocrite and deny our sin. Don’t plead ignorance with God. We close our eyes on sin, mash the gas pedal and plow on into sin and think it won’t stick to our clothes! Quit making excuses for our bad behavior!
3) The Mission of the Church is God’s Priority:
The mission takes priority over individual needs or concerns. We can always be replaced by another Christian who will walk the way God wants and please God. If a person brings division into the church, God will take them down = Out! The mission of the church takes priority over the individual person. Michah 6:8 Do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. We are to keep praying for the mission of the church. The mission is to get people to the Lord God Almighty!
Amen
