The Power of Four

Man is basically spirit, soul, and body. These three components have been carefully structured to deliver a certain level of creativity that is an integral part of the grand scheme of God. However, because of sin and its concomitant consequence of manís fall, it is no longer adequate for only the spirit, soul, and body of man to carry out its encoded assignment satisfactorily. Right from the fall of man in Eden, perversion of the Creatorís purpose became the order of the day to the point that no human being without the help of the fourth force is in right standing with God, the assignment-giver. The Bible puts it this way: ď . . . There is none that doeth good, no, not oneĒ (Psalm 14:3). It became necessary for a fourth force. Regenerated man is therefore not just spirit, soul, and body, but spirit, soul, body, and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the one who makes man complete again. Without him, we are incomplete, inadequate, powerless, and perverse. We can do nothing meaningful for the assignment-giver without the Holy Spirit. The Bible describes him as our helper, our teacher, our intercessor, and our comforter. He is the most potent force in man because the word of God makes it clear that without him, we can do nothing. This is awesome! He is the power-giving component of man. His power supersedes any other power on earth. He is the one who leads us into all truth. He enlightens because he knows the mind of God, who is the assignment-giver. He is the one who moved on the surface of the waters before God said, ď . . . Let there be light: and there was lightĒ (Genesis 1:3); he is the one who raised Jesus from the dead; he is the one who was sent by Jesus to take residence in man for Godís purposes to be achieved on earth. When Jesus himself walked the earth, he had to wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit before embarking on the Fatherís assignment. When he had accomplished his mission and was about to ascend to the Father, he instructed his disciples to wait for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit before launching out on their assignments.

Jesus depended on the Holy Spirit for empowerment from beginning to end. What about you? Many of us ignore and neglect him, not recognizing that he is actually God with us and in us. Jesus Christ is in heaven, seated at the right hand of God the Father, but he left us the Holy Spirit. He is here with us today, and we have become his temple. He is effectively the fourth component of every triumphant man and of every man on Godís assignment. If you want to know your assignment, he is the one to consult. He gives you all the details and imprints them on the tablet of your heart. You can never go wrong with your assignment when you depend on him for strength, direction, and inspiration. He always knows what you donít know and sees what you donít see. Jesus lived on earth for only thirty-three years, but the Holy Spirit has been here with us since the ascension of Jesus until the end of time. Nobody with a sense of mission and assignment can afford to discount the indispensability of this fourth force.
