They think it strange that you don't plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation and they heap abuse on you-1 Peter 4:4 NIV
What's wrong with her/him is what they're saying now that you don't hang out with them, drink with them or go clubbing with them anymore. They even call you names and carelessly throw insults your way because you're tithing, going to church regularly and reading your Bible more. What they don't know is that they WILL have to give an account to the One who judges between right and wrong (1 Peter 4:5 NIV) for those very insults that they've thrown your way.
When we decide to walk closer with Christ we are choosing to put our old ways to the side if not behind us (1 Corinthians 13:11 NIV and 1 Peter 1:14 NIV). By doing so we often cause our friends and family members to quickly swirl into a great cloud of confusion. Confusion hits them so fast because they can't understand why you would choose the "square" life over what you've been doing for years and years. If I didn't understand that change is necessary when you decide to follow Christ, I'd probably be confused too.
In 1 Peter 4:2&3 NIV the Bible tells us that we've already spent enough time in the past doing what pagans do and that we should no longer live our earthly lives for human desires but rather for the will of God. Now I want you to ask yourself this as I ask myself the same question. How can I live my life according to the Lord's will if I'm continuing to take part in things that aren't of Him?
If you're friends and family members have began to talk maliciously about you then just smile to yourself. I want you to quickly throw a smile on your face because BLESSED are you when they insult, persecute and falsely say all kinds of evil against you (Matthew 5:11 NIV). Not only are you blessed but great is your reward in heaven (Matthew 5:12 NIV) for all you've endured.
So if they're talking bad about you just let them continue to run their mouths!
If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
