Rejoice....
blessed are
you
among women!
[Luke 1:28]
*********************
(It is a quiet
afternoon, on a
warm spring day.
Mary steps in the
doorway of the
carpenter shed.)
(Her eyes open wide,
and she gasps,
with pleasure.)
"What is THIS?"
(Jesus looks up,
and sets aside
the polishing rag.
He smiles, gently.)
"It is for you,
Mother."
(Mary exclaims,
softly. She looks
down, and rubs
her fingers against
the smooth,
wooden object.)
"It is so BEAUTIFUL!
I have never SEEN
anything.....LIKE it!"
(Jesus gazes lovingly,
at the woman who
gave Him birth.)
"It is a cradle:
for Lidia's new baby...
and your first grandchild."
(Mary smiles, and nods.
She moves back and
forth, a bit: delicately
examining the wooden
crib. She whispers.)
"Oh....how beautiful!
It is....
I have never seen anything,
like it!
It is BEAUTIFUL!"
(Jesus looks intently
at the finished piece.
He picks up
His carpenter's tool,
and qently touches
it to the cradle. He
nods, and smiles,
shyly.)
"Yes....it is a MOTHER'S
day gift: for you."
(Mary looks up:
a smile of curiousity
on her sweet, kind face.
She inquires, softly.)
"MOTHER'S DAY?
Whatever.... is THAT?"
(Jesus smiles to
Himself: nodding,
slightly. )
"Hm? Oh.......!"
[SMILE!]
"It is merely....."
(Jesus leans forward,
gently, to kiss
His mother's
work-roughened
fingers resting
alongside the
wooden edge of
the brand new
cradle. The
air is filled
with the rich
scent of wood
shavings, and
tufts of manure
dotted hay.)
"...An expression?"
[SMILE!]
*********************
And
she brought forth
her firstborn Son,
and wrapped Him
in swaddling cloths,
and laid Him
in a manger,
because there
was no room
for them
in the
inn.
[Luke 2:7]
