Children
In 1988, a 6.9 earthquake shook the country of Armenia. Shabby, old Russian buildings crumbled into heaps of rubble. Beneath one of them, a mother and her young son were trapped. In order to nourish her son until, she prayed, help would come, she cut her arms on a jagged piece of cement and had him suck on her wound. When help arrived, the mother had succumbed to serious injuries. The son, however was pulled out alive, his mother's blood sustaining him.
Can a mother do any different? Do we not daily pray for our children, that the blood of Christ will cover them and keep them safe. Our dearest, most tender thoughts are of our children. Our greatest earthly love is for them. And then they become teens. Not the easiest to like, and our prayers are different for them. We pray that God will let them be in the world, but not of the world.
We pray in a world of computers, and Ipods, and cell phones, that somehow, they will still hear the voice of God.
If you have a teen whom you feel has turned away from God, take heart. Continue to pray for them. Continue to pray with them. Show them that Jesus is a most precious friend, and He is there always for your teen as well.
Peter says in Acts 2:39
{39}.. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."
If your child seems far off right now, Look to make your home a loving place. They need a soft landing and a safe harbor. Is your home a happy home, or is it an abode of nagging, complaining and bitterness?
In Luke 18:16, Jesus said; "Suffer the little children to come to me." Are you keeping your teen from Jesus by an angry, mean disposition, or do you mirror the love He has for all his children, including yourself?
Our teens have the world biting at their heels, and we have no idea what they go through every day.
Keep true to your values, listen to your teen, love your teen, and give them a soft landing at home by parents who are joyous over their very existence.
When teens see a true pattern of Jesus in their home, and devout parents who truly love them, they will come around. It make take time, but be patient and wait on God.
He's not quite done with us, either.
