Being a Godly woman should be the first quality for a mother.....
followed by a sense of humor (as she'll NEED it)!
Our own mothers had both of these qualities and we thank God for that.
My Mom needed a sense of humor as she was a farmer's wife (mother to her 4 sons) during the depression years.
She often had comments about the wind in western Oklahoma:
~"If my birthday was in 'windy' March, I'd change it."
~"If you took all of the wind out of Oklahoma, it wouldn't be as large as Rhode Island."
~"I swept Kansas out of our house yesterday and swept Texas out today!"
~"When Noah's flood came, we got a half inch in Altus!"
Even though La Moyne's Mom was bedfast for 6 yrs, she kept a sweet attitude.
One day as she was looking out her window she said....
"Look at those beautiful clouds out there', then turned to us with a sly grin and said...
'Well you know God could've put MUD up there."
We thought we would share some thoughts about Humorous (as well as Godly) Mothers today. You may have already read some of these, but hopefully they will lift your spirits!
"MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME....."
~TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE:
"If you're going to kill each other, do it outside...I just finished cleaning."
"You better pray that will come out of the carpet."
~ ABOUT TIME TRAVEL:
"If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week."
"Because I said so, that's why!"
"If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me."
"Keep crying and I'll give you something to cry about."
~THE SCIENCE OF OSMOSIS:
"Shut your mouth and eat your supper."
~ ABOUT CONTORTIONISM:
"Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!"
"You'll sit there until all of that spinach is gone!"
~ ABOUT WEATHER:
"This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it."
~ BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION:
"Stop acting like your father!"
~ ABOUT ANTICIPATION:
"Just wait until we get home."
"You're going to get it when you get home!"
~ MEDICAL SCIENCE:
"If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they're going to get stuck that way."
"Put your sweater on...don't you think that I know when you're cold?"
~ ABOUT MY ROOTS:
"Shut that door behind you...do you think you were born in a barn?"
~HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT:
"If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up."
"When you get to be my age, you'll understand."
(We just now noticed that this "I Owe My Mother" was sent to us by our precious neighbor, Ferrill White. Ferrill died Tuesday and his services are tomorrow.
Would appreciate your prayers for Dolores and their children.)
John Quincy Adams:
"All that I am, my mother made me."
"All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother."
D.L. Moody testified as he stood by the casket of his departed mother:
"You have done more for me than anybody else in this world; you believed in me and loved me when I was a wild sinner...you followed me with your prayers. I owe more to you than anyone else in this world."
"Men are what their mothers make them. But since the world is what men make it and men are what their mothers make them, it naturally follows that the world can be no better than its mothers. There can be no great men without great mothers."
Pastor James Ehrlich:
"Paul (writing to encourage his young friend Timothy) said 'I call to remembrance
the genuine faith that is in you which dwelt in your mother, Eunice'. (II Tim. 1:5)
~A mother's faith is to be a GENUINE faith.
For a mother to be greatly used of God, she must truly be a person of faith in God.
~A mother's faith is to be an EXPRESSED faith.
There was no doubt in either Paul nor Timothy's mind that Eunice possessed faith.
They could see it in her life and hear it in her words.
~A mother's faith is to be a SHARED faith.
What a responsibility this lays upon all mothers to have faith in God's Word....
and in His Son which can be shared with their families."
Bonnie Jensen, in honor of her own loving Mother:
"Into a precious vessel God pours:
~ an understanding heart
~ all the joy a child dreams of
He gives her His compassion and a kindness like no other...
then wraps her in a quiet strength and gently calls her 'Mother'.
God has reserved a special role for mothers.
He has placed in their hands the tender lives of precious little ones.
She nurtures and molds them into maturity, she is their teacher.
She is their example during the most impressive years."
God placed His only Son, clothed in human flesh, in the safe keeping of Mary.
Jesus' earthly mother was God's instrument of preparation for His ministry.
She rejoiced at His birth and wept at His death.
Yet Mary always trusted God in her role as mother.
A Godly mother
~supports her family
~guides them in the ways of righteousness
~gives comfort in times of sorrow
~rejoices in times of triumph.
The Bible says:
" Strength and Honor are her clothing....she openeth her mouth with wisdom....
in her tongue is the law of happiness."
A PRAYER FOR MOTHERS:
Dear God, thank You for Godly mothers.
Their unique role as parent, teacher, friend and example was born in the heart of God.
Holy Father, grant today that these mothers may have the dedication to accept their God given role and the spiritual discernment to fulfill Thy purpose in sustaining the family and guiding their children in the paths of righteousness.
Give us mothers who have the wisdom and courage to build homes that honor Thee.
This we pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
